AMAZING DOMAIN TRICK – GOOGLE FEATURE UNVEILED
December 16th, 2009 Posted in Aftermarket, Business Sector, Domain Development, General Domain News
Hi Gang,
I’m going to give a way a secret I’ve been using for several years. This feature involves a process of “gauging” the popularity of your generic descriptive domain of prodservs. (This may be the biggest DOMAINING TIP you received all year.)
This simple procedure using Gmail has done a lot to help me pinpoint fast-moving topics and pick up domains that are showing if their “trend” is becoming popular. The more articles returned on your alerts, the more popular your generic domain is. Not only that, the alerts bring you news articles that reveal new technologies, prodservs, updates, and fun content to rewrite for your Whypark pages to make the text original.
Remember, these are tests done for NON-TM domains. No brand typos, no trickery, just straight forward facts to help you nab and/or monitor a domain that purely describes the prodservs of ANY company promoting those prodservs online.
The only requirement is that you use Gmail. You can set up alerts here to any email you want: http://www.google.com/alerts (thanks to several reader’s feedback, there’s the link!) You do NOT have to use Gmail, although I use Gmail almost exclusively, and find that it’s the best web-based email service there is. Regardless of the other weird stuff Google is doing, (I imagine we’ll soon we’ll have Google ID chips implanted behind our ears), this service really “delivers the goods for you.
If you’ve been using this Google Alert feature already, or have questions/issues about it, let us know your experiences and results.

I use alerts for “domain names” related news and articles, but I hadn’t thought to receive alerts for keyword domains. Nice tip.

Hi M-Dot,
Thanks for your kudos, I appreciate it. It helps you decide on which “tester domains” you’ve purchased are going to “mature”.
Dang… I charge big $$$ for this advice, but this is my Xmas present to all, because all is going well for me (knock on wood!).

Stephen,
Are you setting up Google Alerts for the domain’s keyword phrase?
That is a crafty idea to facilitate content creation for domains that you already own but I’m missing the connection on how it helps you identify and purchase domains for new emerging trends.
If you’re not currently aware of the trend, how would you setup an alert for it?

Hi Big B:
You kind of answered your own question here, my friend. If you’re reading an article, especially in any tech email or news site online, and you see a “phrase” that might describe perfectly a consumer trend, then capture that phrase, and set up a Google Alert for it. In a year, you’ll know if you want to renew it… you’ve seen all the “articles” regarding its growth. This system is meant for domainers gambling on a domain name, not necessarily for people “watching for a phrase” before they buy it as a domain name. You know why… because once you realize it’s a great phrase for a domain, it’s gone!
My article may not have explained that clearly. So here I can update what I mean: If you find a domain phrase you like, and decide to gamble on buying it OOTB (Out Of The Basket – “new registration”), you can follow its growth for the year by assigning the phrase to a Google Alert.
Hope this helps, and thanks for bringing this angle up for me and my readers!

Google Alerts don’t require Gmail…..I’ve been getting them for five years or so now with no Gmail account…..just using my ISP email address.

Hi Belmassio,
Can you detail how you do this for my readers? I haven’t discovered this procedure. Thanks!

Google ID chips behind the ears huh? Who would have thought of that? Revelation 13.. Check it out.

Hi Mr. Anonymous “LOOK IT UP”
I know about 666, and Revelations. I grew up with the Scriptures scaring the crap out of me. The question is does the prediction scare everyone who uses their cellphones, knowing that their location is being logged as long as their cellphone is on? GPS? Safety in exchange for Freedom and Privacy? Lots of stuff to talk about on this subject… not for this blog tho. BTW, I use Bible.com to look up killer biblical phrases all the time to freak out my friends.
My favorite Bible verses:
John: 1:12 “We have the power to become “sons of God”.
John: 10:31-34.
My favorite Bible chapter is John. I ignore the rest, mostly, for the “reality” of what we’re here for. I won’t reveal what I know and have learned in 40 years of studying this… but it’s hopeful, happy, joyful, and life-changing. I expect to have a finished product within 10 years to publish.
I also accept all religions that use common love for others as the basis for their foundation.

Great post, thanks. I too have been using Google Alerts for several years and just get them sent to my regular email address. There are no special tricks, just go to the site, enter your terms, set how often etc. and plug in your email at http://www.google.com/alerts
As for GMail, you don’t need it for this… but I have been thinking this week that I may finally move some (and ultimately all) of the email on my domains to their system. Got to at least test it as I have a customer that wants to do this.

Thanks for the info, John – seems I’m getting “learned” here! Notice the article update!

I’ve been using Google Alerts for a few years for domain keywords, and getting the alerts in RSS feeds for the past year or so.
Being able to get alerts from not just Google News, but also Video and Blogs and Web, too, is pretty useful.
What a great thread you started…an excellent gift for the holidays. Thanks!

Hi Angie,
Thank you for your nice comments! I’m happy (sometimes reluctant) to reveal my domain moneymaking secrets for free. lol
