Great article! I followed you through a link on domainnamewire.com and agree with you 100%! I'm not a "domainer" so much (IE, I don't own thousands of 'em), but the importance of owning keyword-specific names cannot be denied! You can easily gain traffic you might otherwise miss through either direct type-ins, or keyword/phrase searches (a topic I monitor and write about).

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for commenting on this article. It's one of my favorite for one reason: If the enduser (mainstream businesses) don't understand the value of generic domains, and at least grab a few that define their prodservs, the we domainers have a hard row to hoe. And I don't mean rowing hoes... lol.

If businesses outside the domain industry don't "get it" that a domain is an appreciable marketing asset, then at some point, someone is going to harsh our high.

Thanks for writing, good luck in your domain investments!

The domain industry needs stories like these published in business magazines and to be discussed as case studies in college level marketing classes. Great article.

Great Post! As the years go by more and more local business will realize the potential of using a domain name to tell a customer, "Who you are, where you are and what you do".
