THE 3D DOMAIN REVOLUTION – THE FUTURE TREND WAVE STARTS NOW

Hi Gang,

As most domainers know, I was one of the few domain buyers looking at the 3D and Future Trend domain buying strategy back in 2004.  I also let the cat out of the bag when it was sleeping just fine in there. I revealed my strategy on Monte Cahn’s “DomainMaster Radio” interview in October 2006.

Guess what? For all you old-timers, it’s time to “Erase Your Head!”

Those future trend domains are now maturing faster than expected and have started selling nicely, thank you. My domains were purchased from mainly OOTB, but I also bought domains from private sellers and in auctions and domain “listing” sites, like Buydomains.  I got very good prices from all because most of them weren’t keyed in with information I was reading daily in my “future tech” science report searches.

A good buddy and brilliant domainer, Michael Berkens (Em-Bee) posted an article on his blog TheDomains.com about the emergence of value in 3D domains over 3 months ago that has now reached past the 550 (!) comment mark, which I believe is a record for his blog site (and many other domain blog sites). Suddenly 3D domains have gone ballistic. We have noobies picking up domains for OOTB’s and getting four figure offers on them within less than six months. Talk about striking it rich!

Now it’s time for me to reveal the secret of 3D, Hologram/Holographic, and other future trend domains: If you’re not investing in now, you will be paying huge prices for them in the next year or two, or kicking yourself for not nabbing them when they began to blossom. Even now, 3D products and services are so huge in consumer trends, and every major corporation is looking at “New Media” advertising, including 3D displays and gimmickry. The public LOVES it. The manufacturers are scrambling, the New Media crowd is falling over itself to jump on this bandwagon, and most of them already have to some extent.

Deloitte, the top financial advisory firm in the world, has a nice pdf to download regarding the direction towards 3D marketing. Get it.  (this link is iffy, if it doesn’t work, let us know)

There’s some fun facts right now to impress you with what’s happening just with 3D prodservs.

1) Samsung has sold over 300,000 units of 3D-based TV’s since June 2010. They’re said to own almost 90% of the market in 3D TVs.

2) Sony has said they expect to sell over (read this right) a whopping 2.5 million 3D TV’s in the next year. Expect new technologies to make those TV’s obsolete before the end of 2011. Hey, for now, you can be the coolest house on the block with a 3D TV.

3) Most consumers surveyed about their opinion on 3D entertainment said that other than having cheap 3D optics (glasses), when they get good glasses and a great TV presentation, the experience is fantastic.

4) Drawbacks to 3D consumers talked about were “headaches from bad 3D glasses” and poor migrations of 2D films into 3D films.

5) The “coolest” TV to own right now, under 60 inches, is the Samsung UN55C7000

6) Here’s what we can we expect from 3D advertising: Every major corporation has a 3D New Media campaign already produced, in the works, or planned to head up a campaign. Even billboards on the side of the road will be freaking out drivers… and premiere’s for every new high level product, place, service, will have a 3D ad campaign to back it up. That’s only the start. Every major company is involved.

7) Cellphone apps are being made, along with cellphone technology, to take, project and view 3D images.

My article only covers 3D products and media. There are many other future tech prodservs to immerse your mind and dollars into right now. This is where the big domain money will be in the next 3 years.

I’m offering  anyone looking into purchasing Future Trend domains, including 3D, Holograms, Solar, Robotics, Cellphone Apps, Green Prodserves and electric fashions, a FREE place here to discuss their domain purchases, sales, opinions and expectations for future trend domains.

I am opening my blog site and will feature any and all of your submissions, both in comments and domains you are trying to sell. I’m going to do everyone a favor and let my blog be an OPEN FORUM for future trend domains.

If you aren’t on board with future trend domains now, you will be by 2011, but by then, it might be too late to get the current maturing domains for less than $5000, if that.

Have fun, and I look forward to future technology domains and your opinions! Show us what you got and what you’re doing with it!

nice to see the pick up on 3d printing services i have been holding these domains for a while now and pretty confident of a nice return oh and when i say nice i have my feet firmly planted on the ground just saying that for the ones who like to pitch in there stoopid comments :)

  2. 3d printer manufacturers are mushrooming at an alarming rate.
    Now there is mojo3dprinting.com

Domaining, selling domains that seem to be well chosen, reasoned, researched and registered is challanged. Challanged in that what seem to be inferior names are used in an enterprise over purchasing a better name owned by the domain speculators.

    ie: mojo3dprinting.com

How does the domainer, the domain speculator, promote the purchase of a domain, a great domain, over the choice of an enduser to simply coin some long string domain that has in it the subject.

I know this is prettymuch a rhetorical question, but sheesh, “mojo3dprinting.com”

  3. Got a request for a price on 3dprinting.ws

It won’t sell for the $25,000 Floor and $35,000 BIN

I refuse to sell it for something I will regret later.
$25,000 is a price I can comfortable forget about.

    3dsavvy

  4. I had a few requests for 3dPrinting.us as well

.. i won’t consider moving this name for less than $25,000 and honestly, i’m targeting in the ballpark of $50,000 when it does finally take off.

@3dsavvy, I’d like to learn what those domains were!

Sold on Sedo: nanojobs.com 7500 USD
    Sold on Afternic: filmar.com $1,400.00

    @ Leigh has OurAR.com . . .

  9. @Louise

    I like OurAR.com.

I will ask of the owner of torontodomainer.com the name of the 3d___printer.com domains that were sold. I will report here if I find out.

I received an email back from Afternic regarding 3dprinting.ws.

I was ordered to lower the BIN to 20000 or below or it wouldn’t be further promoted. I lowered the BIN to 17500 and the floor to 12500.

Probably too high in the eyes of many. I will be interested to see if anything approaching 12500 is realized.

    thank you

  11. Here is a quote from a May 15th piece written by Rick Schwartz on his ricksblog rickschwartz.com.

“First of all anything can be sold. Any extension has an aftermarket. So there is always money to be made. So let’s be clear on that. Even manure has value.

“.Com is universal because you can put any word or combination of words and it sounds good not awkward. However you can’t say that about all extensions. Even extensions I like have limits. .ME in particular. Call to action verbs and some nouns. Not all work well or sound good. There are limits. .TV may be more universal as you can put anything that would naturally go with TV before the dot.

So at this point in time I would say .COM, .TV, .ME, Are the 3 primary extensions today and into the years ahead. We will see if any of the new extensions are universal. I can’t see more than a handful even having a chance and I don’t count .Company because I see that more as an Intranet as opposed to an Internet.”

I know Rick to be a master salesman and one of the top promoters of domains and probably is well invested in .tv and .me, but undeniably, Mr. Schwartz knows what he is talking about when it comes to domains and domaining.

Suddenly, CADSoftware.me doesn’t look so bad.

    WHAT AM I BID?

5yrs, 10yrs, 20yrs… lord grant me the virtue of insight and patience.

rememeber how compueters changed the world ?
3d printing is on a par as a worldwide industry changer
    quoted from forbes.com
“When a technology comes along and can do something better, faster and cheaper… all of a sudden you find yourself wondering how we ever got along without it. The military is rumored to use 3D printers for resupplying parts for fighter jets aboard carriers and in the combat theatre, and since it costs so much to send anything that weighs a lot into space, NASA and the Singularity University are reportedly planning to use 3D printers for future space missions.”

“We are going to live in a world where anyone can create and customize, and iterate with blinding speed.” says one financial expert. I believe that he’s right, and I can’t
think of another technology that has so many implications for new industry. The possibilities are endless, and opportunities are coming fast and furious. “It’s like drinking from a fire hose right now.”, says Summit. Just like the Industrial Revolution, the assembly line, the advent of the internet and the Social Media phenomenon, 3D Printing will be a game changer.

Woman Has Jaw Replaced With A 3-D Printed Jaw

A team of medical researchers from Belgium and the Netherlands has successfully replaced the jaw of an 83-year old woman with a 3-D printed model of her lower mandible. This is the first such model used to replace an entire jaw.

Because of a severe infection, the doctors had determined that the woman’s jaw had to be replaced, but because of her age and other factors, traditional reconstructive surgery was judged to be too risky. So instead, the researchers, working in conjunction with implant company Xilloc, opted to instead replace the entire mandible with a 3-D printed model.
This is a pretty amazing application of 3-D printing, since the prosthetic could be fitted exactly to the unique needs of the patient. This, I imagine, is just the tip of the iceberg for this type of medical application. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Well done. Where the hell was I when these domains were up.

Hats off.! Can’t wait to here of one or more of them going big.

just a shame i dont have the clean version to go with the other two but picking those up when i did was pure luck the news was out there it just needed someone to see the potential in 3d printing, back then i was actually mocked for picking up these names but like everyone here i was thinking ahead.
still maybe not the best names in 3d printing like a clean 3dprinting.com but considering all were hand regged i would like to think i did pretty well.
I dont quite think people realise just how much 3d printing is going to change the world even to the point of retail high street stores to large multi national companies everyone will be affected in some degree by 3d printing whether they own one or not those who choose to ignore will regret it later.
i salute the guy who bought the 3d printing domain for 25k was it last year ? think it was, that name will most certainly be worth a large 6 figure sum without question.

    3dworld.com $10,100 2012-04-14 namejet.com

      @ Giles,

Maybe it was on auction… then the high bidder got cold feet because they didn’t know what “3D” actually meant overall. lol

  24. Ron R

Wow. That’s a big loss to take in such a short period of time. Anyone know the background of the deal(s)?

    • admin

      @Ron R,

I agree… if anyone finds out the facts of this sale, it would be a great example to “warn FT domainers” that even 5k for their domains, especially if bought by another domainer, means they’re getting ripped off, or at least, taken advantage of. A lot of FT domainers are new at this business, which is why we would encourage them to take some Successclick advisory consulting courses. 3 months at $500 a month can save you tens of thousands in just a few months. Not one client of ours has ever complained or asked for refunds. We show you exactly what you need to do, how to do it, and that holding on, like the big domainers who have money to keep them financially secure so “not sell their great names for cheap” out of desperation, is exactly what FT domainers should, especially if they have an APPRAISED domain valued at mid five figures and higher.

  25. I am beginning to think that when it comes to any and all of my meager domains that a general order to all, be they domainer or end-user, there is a “Don’t Buy Right Now!” mantra, man.

  26. Giles

I saw both sales on dnjournal and both at namebio.com so they were completed sales I believe

      @Louise,
Yeah, you can bet that anything coming in with a “.RU” ccTLD extension that indicates a solid natural domain – a dark horse in the ecommerce game. And few people talk about it. *cough*… does it have something to do with staying alive? lol

Your submission is right on because there is a lot of cash coming out of Russia that US Media concerns don’t want you to get “eduated”. Of course, every major network and cable news station is owned by multinational corporate interests. Do they control what is broadcast? What do you think? This is called “…absolute power corrupts, absolutely.”

So what’s going to happen is the Russian companies will do a shadow style purchase of some key corporations, and some will be in the technology sector. Then it will be like 3 years ago when all of a sudden the Media announced “hey! China owns half of America!”.

Anyone who thinks this is “liberal media” ideology, read between the lines.

Everybody dislikes my domains. I’m still the minority! BTW, @ Savvy, I like the website for the3DPrinter!!! February of last year I registered, DualScreenApp, and started a site for it. Earlier this month, I thought, “I better grab the plural,” and registered DualScreenApps. Now, they’re all over the news:

    Apple dual-screen apps incoming
    http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/306576,apple-dual-screen-apps-incoming.aspx

But according to Owen, I need to complete a 12-step program and become sober from my domaining. Ha!

BTW, ala the Future Trend Domain Auction, I wrote a beautiful description for SmartSubstrates dot com, listed on Afternic. It’s my first listing there in years. We’ll see how it goes!

  37. Hello again Mr. Domain Millionaire,

I have emailed him a list of my 3d printing and 3d scanning domains and went so far as to write a letter with the same information.

I finally found a number for him, it was his cell number. I didn’t have two words out past “domains related to 3D Printing” when he abruptly stated “We Don’t Care.”

huh? I said “atta boy” and hung up.

Almost exclusively I here from possible “end users” that domains don’t matter.

Morgan Linton wrote a post, entitled: Doing More With Less: Why Selling More Domains Doesn’t Always Mean Making More Money
    http://morganlinton.com/doing-more-with-less-why-selling-more-domains-doesnt-always-mean-making-more-money

    Morgan admit

You tend to acquire far more domains than you’re selling, which means that you’re spending a lot of time and money buying domains.

So, now, he buys fewer domains and makes more $$. It makes sense. Hope that is encouraging!
    Louise :)

  39. Louise

@ 3DSavvy, I discerned this, too. We have an uphill battle, because the ad agencies, steeped in tradition, missed the boat when it came to registering dot coms for their clients. So, the ad agencies, or Madison Avenue, who wield power, diminish the importance of dot com to their clients.

  40. Louise

Let me give you a “for instance.” Microsoft registered, Surface.com, before launching its tablet – it got THAT right! Kudos! Good job!

But Mark Monitor, its premium registrar service, didn’t register, SurfaceTablet.com, or purchase it before the announcement. Now, Microsoft registered, SurfaceTablet.net, TabletSurface.com, and SurfaceTablet.org.

Any one of us, would be a better advisor to these big companies than Mark Monitor or the marketing agencies who contract for Microsoft.

But we have to convince even the little guy, that he’s better off owning a premium dot com. It isn’t easy!

I can’t believe Radioprototypes didn’t inquire about one of your great printing domains, @ Savvy! Move on. Maybe you have to pitch ten end users, before you get the sale!

  41. @Louise

I would hazard a guess that any .com domains Mr. Linton is selling are domains that were registered prior to 2004 and probably earlier.

Either you have to have deep pockets for .coms on the aftermarket now, have hand registered, one word or exact term generics circa 1996-2002, or like Adam Dicker, Xavier Buck, Mike Mann and other .com millionaires, have the means to register 5000 to 25000 domains at a time, basically cornering the market in a new genre.

Any newbie or relative newbie like me struggling to pay the “rent” hasn’t got a chance in hell, says he , whining , again.

But, hope… springs eternal and persistence will out.

    Robert McLean

  42. Louise

Hi @ Savvy, You’re right to hope – you have some nice jewels in your portfolio. Even me – I can’t believe! – DualScreenApps, which noone wanted to touch the dual screen niche, is big in the news with none other than Apple:

    Apple TV gains dual-screen apps
    ‎Apple dual-screen apps incoming
‎Brightcove helps iOS developers build dual-screen apps for Apple TV

Dual screen app[s] is the term, and noone wanted them, so I have it! But people STILL don’t like my domains, so I just have to go with my vision!

And you have some great names. When the success comes my way, I’m bringing everybody on board, who is listed on EmergingDomains now. Newcomers, not so much.

  43. Louise

Anybody got any news? I keep checking this thread, to see if anybody sold anything, or wants to report updates . . .

I registered dualscreenads dot com today, to go with the singular, dualscreenad. Looks like I have dual screen/multi screen pretty much covered, in time for 2nd screen applications . . . but no future trend people are talking about it . . .

    • admin

      @Louise

There is more of a “gone underground” mentality for the moment for FT domainers, because of a few negative commenters seemingly intent on stopping our move forward. Keep working on what you’re doing, try to keep it quiet until we announce future launches and benefits for the FT domain group. I’d rather tell you this in an email to keep things below the radar, but I think this message, if read by other FT domainers, will answer some questions and keep everyone on track, but not have them sell “premature” FT domains for cheap and delete the value of our domains. Stay focused and try not to reveal every card in your hand. You can’t win a poker game with your cards face up before the river card. Keep up your good work preparing for the FT launch coming soon…

  44. Straighttalk

By owning a domain name you have a “SIMILE” to Real Estate Property, you can either Sell it or Rent it or Lease it. Anyone owning Real Estate let’s face it there a costs involved in owning property. (Our costs are much lower than property taxes) It does not matter if someone right now does not want to buy one of our domain names. So the market is a little soft. You have to remember we are ahead of technology and it needs to catch up with us; just because someone does not share our vision at the top of some corporation means absolutely nothing. If we just get a bit creative we can figure out ways to hold onto our Real Estate by approaching all types of business out there that could benefit from our Superb Domain names as some sort of partnerships. This unique opportunity allows us to market our domains to FUTURE business partners who will need quality domain names to launch new sites or build off existing ones. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to sell our Real Estate and recoup some jingle but if the timing is not right; who’s to say we can’t improvise with creative solutions? By exploring these avenues it can help loosen the money tension for those who are feeling the crunch of investing. We are holding these domain names in hopes of collecting 4, 5, 6, figure sales in the future. Will any of that matter if you find a business partner for one of your domain names and your income surpasses what you hoped to get in a sale and still own a piece of the domain? The point is; don’t feed into the negativity of those who think a sale of your domain is a pipe-dream, because when you own “Real Estate” selling isn’t always your best option.

@ admin, thanx for update. I, too, should focus more on my projects and getting recognition, maybe earning ppc and affiliate income. Next year, I think I will be that far along, to set that up. Right now, I am developing projects, getting ranked.

Each month is painful choices of dropping domains, but keeping the ones I really want to develop. Moniker sometimes grabs them before the full “pending delete” term is through, for ones I allow to drop . . .

@ Straighttalk, that is wise talk! I’m thinking my first approach may be to acquire sponsorships, and skip end user sales!
