WHICH LIVE DOMAIN AUCTION SITE IS THE BEST?

October 2nd, 2011 Posted in General Domain News

Domain Auction Sites… which are the best?  Do they fall into strong categories of how well do they do in certain topics of domains? We’re not sure, but we all know the Big Domain Community auction sites:

Snapnames
Afternic
Sedo
Moniker
GreatDomains

(in no particular order)

Then you have the “we don’t get involved with promoting the domain industry” auction sites:

Namejet
GoDaddy

Then you have the “new auction sites”, such as CAX.com (by Francois) and others.

Question for the week:    Which Live Auction Site Is The Best?

If I forgot any, feel free to add them below.

    Hello,

SnapNames and Moniker are the same.

Sedo and GreatDomains are the same.

    Afternic no longer auction domains.

Add these auctions places: Boxcar, Bido, Aftermarket, Pool, …

    Update and remove my comment.

    IMHO

NJ = Best margin on domain sales
    GD/TDNAM = Higest number of sales Daily/Weekly/Monthly/etc…
Sedo = GreatDomains = Afternic = Most likely to sell YOUR domain
Snap = Moniker = Kind of like a sidewalk / yard sale for domains. Its hit or miss, sometimes there are a lot of gems, sometimes it’s a bust. Limited space available for the better / weekend sales. The overall quality of the inventory is more clear after the sale is over.

There are a lot of others out there but I don’t have enough of an opinion.

Another one certainly worth mention is the TRAFFIC auction however it is of lower frequency and is such a dynamic animal (changed around and changed hands a lot) that it’s hard to endorse one way or the other. I will say that I think it is most committed to trying to figure out how to be what you are looking for, which is “The Best”. If it misses they try something notably different, and it it hits they don’t want to call it status quo but they want better. In a way this makes it the biggest Risk but also carries the biggest potential reward for selling YOUR domain.

    Hi Francois,

Okay, I’ve added Boxcar, Pool, Aftermarket.com and Bido to the mix. (I don’t know how I forgot Aftermarket.com.)

Actually, even though Snapnames and Moniker are owned by the same company, Oversee.net, and Sedo and Great Domains are owned by Sedo, they are run differently and cover different domain auction situations.

    Hi Joe,

I don’t even want to include TDNAMWHATEVER THE HELL THAT NAME IS TO REPRESENT GENERIC BRAND DOMAIN SALES. lol

I’ve actually had much more success on Sedo than Afternic, and definitely a lot more sales on Snapnames when they had that “Top domain Auctions Ending Today” page, which I think was their homepage. Good god, I hope they didn’t add it back in there and I haven’t checked! Listing great domains on the homepage of an auction site, especially on the day before the auction ends would be my marketing recommendation for any domain auction site.

    Thanks Joe.
